Join Chef Jermaine Jonas for an immersive, planet-friendly culinary experience rooted in plant-based living, heritage, and place. This hands-on journey invites guests to prepare nourishing meals while engaging with the history, culture, and rhythms of rural Antigua.
Set in Freeman’s Village, widely regarded as the island’s first free village after emancipation and one of its most centrally located communities, the experience is deeply anchored in story. Guests will learn about Papa Sammy and the village’s legacy, forage for seasonal fruits within the surrounding neighborhood, and hear how Chef Jonas represents the third generation of his family to live in this rural cottage, originally built in the early 1900s and once home to his grandparents and father. Today, the space has been thoughtfully reimagined into a full sensory culinary retreat.
Together, we prepare a selection of Chef Jonas’s signature plant-based dishes in the intimate setting of his culinary cottage. Along the way, he shares his philosophy on local and regional produce, exploring why food that is “grown here, not flown here” matters for personal health, environmental sustainability, and the local economy.
The experience concludes with an al fresco dining moment, where guests enjoy the meal they’ve prepared while surrounded by the sounds, sights, and stillness of a rural oasis.
